Detroit Lions restructure Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell contracts

The Detroit Lions restructured the contracts of wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and offensive tackle Penei Sewell on Saturday, Sept. 12, to create over $35 million in salary cap space. By converting portions of their salaries into bonuses, the team reduced the 2026 cap hits for both players. St. Brown saw his cap hit drop by $20.8 million, while Sewell's cap hit decreased to $18.9 million. These adjustments increase their respective cap hits in future seasons under their existing multi-year extensions. The move provides the Lions with approximately $38 million in total cap room, currently the second-most in the NFL. General manager Brad Holmes now has additional financial flexibility to pursue roster changes during the season or carry the remaining balance into next year.
