Detroit Lions retain current roster after clearing NFL waiver wire

The Detroit Lions concluded the waiver period on August 31 without adding or losing any players from their roster. The team set its initial 53-man unit on August 30 and remained unchanged through the transaction wire. Although the organization held the 17th position in the waiver order, no claims were processed for the team. Players released during the roster cuts, including Luke Altmyer and Nick Whiteside, are now free agents eligible to sign with any club or return to the Detroit practice squad. Additionally, center Michael Niese, who was released with an injury designation, has been placed on the team's injured reserve list. The team now turns its attention toward the construction of its practice squad for the upcoming season.
