Detroit Lions sign Josh Dobbs as backup quarterback after Bridgewater retires

The Detroit Lions signed quarterback Josh Dobbs to bolster their roster following Teddy Bridgewater's retirement. Bridgewater, who was expected to serve as the backup to Jared Goff, was placed on the reserve/retired list. Dobbs, a familiar figure in Detroit after spending time on the practice squad in 2022, has experience under Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. Last season, he started for the Cardinals and Vikings, posting a combined record of 3-5. The Lions plan to give Dobbs a chance to compete for the backup job against undrafted rookie Luke Altmyer in the coming preseason game against the Bengals.
