The Detroit Lions signed running back Raheem Blackshear on August 4 after a workout. This move comes as the Lions are experiencing a shortage at the position with Sione Vaki sidelined due to a broken nose from practice and Jahmyr Gibbs not participating while negotiating a new contract. Blackshear, who went undrafted in 2022, spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, contributing primarily on special teams. The Lions waived receiver Lawrence Keys to create space for Blackshear on their roster.
