NHL teams ended a lengthy period of inactivity on Tuesday with the first notable transactions since early July. The New Jersey Devils acquired forward Luke Evangelista from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a conditional first-round pick and a second-round pick in 2028. Evangelista, 24, recorded 12 goals and 44 assists last season. Meanwhile, the New York Rangers signed 27-year-old forward Eli Tolvanen to a one-year contract. Tolvanen previously played for the Seattle Kraken and Nashville, totaling 92 goals and 190 points over 423 career games. These acquisitions mark a shift as teams prepare for upcoming rookie and training camps. The Florida Panthers are scheduled to begin rookie camp on September 13, followed by full training camp on September 17. The 2026-27 NHL regular season opens on September 29 with the Florida Panthers visiting the Carolina Hurricanes.
