This deal serves as a benchmark for New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who is also seeking an extension. Both players are represented by the same agent, and Witherspoon's contract may influence Gonzalez's talks with the Patriots. Gonzalez's status is currently uncertain as he has not practiced due to an injury, prompting speculation about the Patriots' offer.
