Diamondbacks activate Gurriel from IL, option Waldschmidt to Triple-A

The Arizona Diamondbacks will reinstate outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. from the injured list on June 15 after he missed time due to a strained left hamstring. To accommodate his return, the team has optioned Ryan Waldschmidt to Triple-A Reno. Gurriel was hitting.228 with one home run prior to his injury, while Waldschmidt’s performance had declined sharply in recent weeks. Arizona has opted to keep rookie outfielder Tommy Troy on the roster after he hit a home run against the Reds. Jorge Barrosa remains with the team despite struggles at the plate.
