The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in a deal announced on August 2, 2026. Despite Skubal being a two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, the return for Detroit has drawn significant criticism for being insufficient. The Tigers received young pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith, but many expected the Dodgers to part with more elite talent, particularly with other teams reportedly interested in Skubal. The trade raises questions about Detroit's decision-making regarding player valuation and market dynamics as Skubal joins a Dodgers team aiming for a third consecutive championship.
