Dodgers call up Josue De Paula from Double-A for major league debut

The Los Angeles Dodgers are calling up top prospect Josue De Paula directly from Double-A Tulsa, bypassing Triple-A. The move serves as a roster replacement for Shohei Ohtani, who is being placed on the 15-day injured list. De Paula is scheduled to make his major league debut as a designated hitter on Friday. He recorded a.303/.401/.547 slash line with 27 home runs and 31 stolen bases across 124 games in Double-A this season. Manager Dave Roberts noted that the team’s development staff is confident in the 21-year-old outfielder's ability to manage at-bats against major league pitching. Because De Paula was not on the 40-man roster by the September 1 deadline, he is ineligible to participate in the upcoming postseason.
