Dodgers monitor Shohei Ohtani pitching status amid continued recovery

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani remains unavailable for pitching duties as he deals with knee inflammation and biceps discomfort. Although the team has not officially ruled him out for the remainder of the season, manager Dave Roberts confirmed on September 2 that a previously planned pitching progression was halted on August 29. Ohtani last appeared on the mound for the team in a game on July 3. While he is expected to remain available for the Dodgers as a designated hitter, the team is evaluating whether to shut down his pitching efforts entirely. Roberts noted that Ohtani must successfully complete a bullpen session before the staff determines any further course of action. The manager also dismissed the possibility of Ohtani playing in the outfield. Ohtani currently holds an 8-2 record with 95 strikeouts as a pitcher this season.
