Dodgers promote Paul Gervase, demote Emmet Sheehan ahead of Pirates series

On August 21, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced the promotion of Paul Gervase from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Emmet Sheehan has been optioned back to Triple-A after he did not pitch in two games since his call-up. This move comes prior to a weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, following a taxing stretch where the Dodgers utilized 17 different pitchers over the previous 13 days. Gervase has a 4.86 ERA this season in Triple-A, totaling 31 appearances. He previously logged two runs over 7 2/3 innings in his three stints with the Dodgers this year. Sheehan last pitched nine days ago, delivering eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Oklahoma City.
