Dodgers recall Emmet Sheehan as Eric Lauer heads to injured list

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed starter Emmet Sheehan from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday to bolster the pitching staff. The move follows an injury designation for left-hander Eric Lauer, who is sidelined with elbow inflammation. To accommodate the roster change, the organization optioned right-hander Bobby Miller to Triple-A. Sheehan struggled at the major league level earlier this season with a 5.29 ERA, but he recently earned Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month honors with a 1.50 ERA over four starts. Meanwhile, the Dodgers return to action against the Cincinnati Reds with Shohei Ohtani back in the lineup after resting a sore knee. Although postseason roster spots remain unfinalized, Sheehan may be utilized as a long relief option out of the bullpen during the season's remaining weeks.
