Dortmund retains control as Schlotterbeck's release clause expires

Nico Schlotterbeck's release clause in his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired on July 15. Following a prolonged discussion over a new contract, Schlotterbeck signed an extension until 2031. The new deal includes a buy-out clause for select clubs such as Real Madrid and Liverpool. Dortmund can now dictate transfer conditions for the defender, valued at €55 million, although his availability may be limited due to a ligament injury sustained during the 2026 World Cup. Teammate Serhou Guirassy's release clause also expired amid interest from Fenerbahçe.
