Dr. Britt Baker returns to AEW at All In to assist Persephone

We were anticipating arrivals to the AEW roster during the All In pre-show’s other championship match yesterday (Aug. 30). The New Level did arrive per reports, and win the Trios title with Swerve Strickland to start the PPV from Wembley. But earlier a completely unexpected return occurred during the TBS title bout. There, a black-clad figure helped Persephone take the belt from Maya World. The black-and-gold lucha mask should have been a clue. It was Dr. Britt Baker, DMD. The long and mysteriously absent former AEW Women’s World champion later revealed that she’d been scouting the women’s division from afar, and decided to work with Persephone, who adds the TBS title to her CMLL Women’s championship. One reason for their partnership is their mutual enemy Thunder Rosa, and the champ-champ let Baker’s bitter rival know she better stay out of their business. Roughly 24 hours after her comeback, Britt posted a message from the person behind the gimmick: Guys I’m beyond grateful for all the love. I missed you more than you’ll ever know. Having tens of thousands of people around the world react positively to you has to feel great any time, but especially after a stretch where you’ve been away for whatever reason — and been subjected to some bad fan behavior, resulting in things like her being unable to practice dentistry normally any more. Professionally, I can’t think of a better role for the DMD in today’s AEW women’s scene. As many have pointed out, in-ring was never Baker’s strong suit. Her successful run atop the division during the first few years of the company was due to her being miles in front of the other female talent when it came to character and mic work. With a few exceptions, their wrestling ability also wasn’t that far ahead of Britt’s. In 2026, most of the roster is significantly better than Baker between the ropes. We saw that during her brief 2024 comeback. The women of AEW have also generally become better talkers and actors, and Britt may not even be in the top tier of characters currently. But she can still bring more to the product on the mic than she can in the ring, and Perspehone talking about the DMD being in her corner makes me hope she’s move into more of a manager role. Persephone’s actually comfortable promo-ing in English and Spanish, so she’s an interesting choice. Their partnership may be more about helping Perse-y connect with U.S. audiences than speaking for her. The AEW audience still thinks of Baker as one of their own, as yesterday’s response demonstrated. The new TBS champ has all the skills, but she needs to build a relationship with fans in this country. We’ll see if a run with Britt does that for her, but it’s worth a shot. Beyond that, who knows? Could The DMD be a female Don Callis? Or manage talents for whom the mic is a more significant issue?
