Draymond Green explains NBA payment schedules for league rookies

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green outlined the financial structure governing NBA rookie salaries. Despite high contract values, rookies often do not receive their first standard paycheck until November 15, approximately six weeks into the regular season. Green noted that while the standard pay schedule follows a twice-monthly cadence, players can negotiate contract terms to receive up to 50 percent of their total salary as early as October 1. Additionally, players have the option to take a 15 percent advance upon signing their deals to bridge the gap before the first official payment date. These negotiated terms can result in pay being distributed differently, including payments continuing into the offseason. Green highlighted that because of these payment cycles, players may face gaps in income during the summer months between active seasons.
