Drew Brees considers return to NFL after Bo Nix injury in AFC Championship

Drew Brees nearly unretired at 47 years old to replace Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, who suffered a fractured ankle before the 2025 AFC Championship Game. The Broncos ultimately chose Jarret Stidham to fill the position in their subsequent 10-7 loss to the New England Patriots. Brees had discussions with Broncos staff, including head coach Sean Payton, regarding a potential return. Although he almost made a comeback, Brees cited concerns over his physical condition, including difficulties with his arm, as factors in his decision to remain retired. Brees retired from the NFL in 2021 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer.
