The rumor mill makes it sound like Drew McIntyre’s return to WWE is right around the corner. But to hear it from the man himself, it doesn’t sound like he’s currently making plans to wrestle his first match since WrestleMania 42. He says he’s ready to, but after spending the last several months filming movies like Highlander and The Last Druid (and WWE microdrama Agent of Shadows), McIntyre’s looking to do more work away from pro wrestling. Asked about his next SmackDown or Raw appearance, McIntyre told Fox News: “I’m as big as I’ve ever been. I’m 285, right? And I’m 10 pounds bigger than I was for ‘Agent of Shadows.’ I’m in the best shape of my life. I posted myself running the ropes the other day, keeping myself in ring shape. I’m always ready to go. I think it got like over 8 million views, just bouncing off the ropes a few times, across my social media platforms. “But right now, I’m focused on Hollywood Drew. So, we’ll see. We will see.” Elsewhere on his Agent of Shadows press tour, McIntyre talked to Collider about his new mentor, The Nice Guys’* star Russell Crowe. The four-time WWE World champ explained how he met the two-time Academy Award winner on the Highlander set, which led to his role in The Last Druid (and a workout pic or two): “He’s a mentor for sure. I spent, my goodness, like 12 weeks with him. I met him on Highlander. I saw the a particular scene with Henry [Cavill] and Russell, and I was asking a lot of questions which Chad [Stahlinski, the director]. I stayed for like 4 hours extra just to watch two of the best in action, and just asking a lot. “Then I met Russell, spent some time talking with him. I was at home once I’d finished Highlander, and I got a call from my agents Vernon and Nick, and they said, ‘Russell Crow called he wants you to be part of a movie’, and I said ‘I’m sure he did’, and I hung up and I put the phone down [laughs]. Then they called back and said, ‘No, no, we’re we’re serious.’ I had to get proper confirmation from the man himself before I went to WWE and said, ’Is this something that’d be possible?‘ And thankfully, you know, Nick Khan, our president, Triple H, head of creative, they both looked at it, saw it as a huge opportunity and approved me to go over and spending nearly three months with Russell under the learning tree, and it was amazing — incredible things I can apply not just on screen, but to our WWE product, lessons in life as well, like he has really seen a lot and done a lot in his life.” Drew then goes on to talk about how Crowe is turning him into “a watch guy”. Hollywood does seem to like Drew McIntyre (or should we say Andrew Galloway?), but we also just got another reminder to not believe wrestlers when they say stuff like “I’m focused on other things” amidst rumors about their status. Let us know how much of McIntyre’s future you think is in Hollywood down below, Cagesiders. * Not the first Crowe flick you’d list? You should probably watch it a bunch of times. Might change your mind, and those of us who love it might finally get to see March and Healy tackle another case.
