Duje Caleta-Car joins Sassuolo after terminating his Olympique Lyonnais contract

Defender Duje Caleta-Car has joined Italian side Sassuolo on a free transfer following his departure from Olympique Lyonnais. The 29-year-old center-back reached a mutual agreement with the French club to terminate the final year of his contract. This move follows a period where the player did not feature in the plans of manager Paulo Fonseca. Olympique Lyonnais had sought to offload the defender throughout the summer to alleviate his monthly salary, which was reported at €250,000. Caleta-Car leaves the Ligue 1 team after making 57 total appearances. He spent the previous campaign on loan at Spanish club Real Sociedad before returning to the Rhône, where he was ultimately released to clear space in the squad.
