Duke Carlisle, former Texas Longhorn quarterback, died at age 84 following a seven-year battle with lung cancer. He was instrumental in Texas' first national championship during the 1964 Cotton Bowl against Navy, earning MVP honors for his critical contributions, including a 234-yard passing performance. Born in Kaufman, Texas, he was known for his leadership and humility both on and off the field. Carlisle also made a significant defensive play during the 1963 season. He leaves behind his wife, children, and a legacy as one of only four Longhorn quarterbacks to win a national title. A celebration of life is planned for later this month.
