Duke head coach Jon Scheyer praises athleticism of prospect Deron Rippey Jr

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer identified incoming point guard prospect Deron Rippey Jr. as the most explosive player he has coached at the position. During a recent appearance at the Durham Sports Club, Scheyer noted that the six-foot-two-inch guard demonstrates significant vertical ability near the rim. Rippey Jr. joins the Blue Devils program as a two-time Gatorade New Jersey Boys Basketball Player of the Year. While current point guard Caleb Foster continues to work with the staff, the addition of Rippey Jr. provides the team with increased depth for the 2026-27 season. Scheyer indicated that while the newcomer is not expected to occupy a starting role immediately, his development remains a priority for the coaching staff. The Blue Devils anticipate integrating his physical tools into the rotation as the new campaign begins.
