Duke settles lawsuit against quarterback Darian Mensah after transfer to Miami

Duke filed a lawsuit against quarterback Darian Mensah in January after the player entered the transfer portal despite a prior commitment to return for the 2026 season. The university sought to enforce an NIL contract that allegedly prohibited Mensah from contacting other schools or enrolling elsewhere. The parties reached a settlement on January 27, which released Mensah from his obligations to the Blue Devils. Following the settlement, Mensah signed with the Miami Hurricanes, securing an NIL deal reported at $6.5 million. The quarterback previously led Duke to its first ACC championship game victory during the 2025 season. Mensah and the Hurricanes are scheduled to begin their current season against Stanford on September 4.
