The Duleep Trophy commenced on August 24 at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The tournament's relevance is under scrutiny after the BCCI ended the involvement of national selectors in team selections, leading to notable omissions like Delhi opener Sanat Sangwan, who benched despite strong Ranji performances. Former selectors argue that removing their oversight jeopardizes player development and enhances political influences in selections. The tournament is a platform for players to advance to India 'A' selection, with the final set for September 6-10 in Chennai, where attendance may hinge on the participation of star players like Shubman Gill.
