Dylan Larkin reports to Detroit Red Wings training camp without captaincy

The Detroit Red Wings announced that center Dylan Larkin will attend training camp beginning September 17. Larkin, who requested a trade during the offseason, will no longer serve as the team’s captain for the 2026-27 season. The franchise currently has no captain, as it undergoes a transition period following the departure of general manager Steve Yzerman. Larkin is signed for five more years at an average annual value of $8.7 million and reportedly provided a list of preferred trade destinations, including the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, and Florida Panthers. The veteran forward recorded 34 goals and 67 points across 74 games last season. Despite these off-ice developments, Larkin remains on the roster as the team prepares for its October 2 home opener against the New York Rangers.
