East Carolina to honor Chris Johnson with helmet decals in 2026

East Carolina University will honor former running back Chris Johnson with helmet decals in 2026. The decals will feature Johnson’s No. 5 circled in gold, along with his name and a ribbon, symbolizing support during his battle with ALS. Athletic Director Jon Gilbert emphasized the team's commitment to raising awareness and showing solidarity with Johnson, whose career at ECU was significant prior to his NFL success with the Tennessee Titans. Johnson will also be inducted into the Titans' Ring of Honor during their upcoming season opener against the New York Jets. Head Coach Blake Harrell stated that the team aims to carry Johnson’s legacy with them throughout the season.
