Eddie Dunbar earned his third career grand tour stage victory after a late attack on the category-one climb at Penas Blancas, Estepona. The Pinarello-Q36.5 rider broke away from an elite group in the final 500 meters to finish 14 seconds ahead of Santiago Buitrago. In the general classification, Enric Mas defended his overall lead after fending off repeated challenges from Primoz Roglic and Richard Carapaz. The top six riders in the standings finished together, preserving the current order ahead of the final two stages. Oscar Onley remains the leader in the best young rider classification while sitting fifth overall. The race continues Saturday with a 186.8km route from La Calahorra featuring four major climbs.
