Eddie McGourley, 83, attempts cycling record from Land's End to John O'Groats

Eddie McGourley, an 83-year-old from Chester-le-Street, is cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats to become the fastest octogenarian to complete the route. He aims to finish in 10 days, reaching John O'Groats by July 8. McGourley, who is raising funds for St Cuthbert's Hospice in memory of his late wife Winifred, has received support from a team of five, including a younger friend. While he finds the journey challenging, McGourley remains focused on his goal, with the previous record set at 14 days. He has covered significant distance in his first five days of cycling.
