Cincinnati Reds infielder Elly De La Cruz recorded a 102 mph relay throw to the plate during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium this week. The play successfully prevented Teoscar Hernandez from scoring an inside-the-park home run. Although Statcast initially displayed a reading of 105.3 mph, officials later confirmed the velocity at 102 mph. Catcher Jose Trevino noted that only two pitchers he has worked with, Aroldis Chapman and Emmanuel Clase, have reached similar speeds during his career. This performance marks the first time an infielder has recorded a triple-digit assist since tracking began in 2015.
