Embry-Riddle basketball coach Steve Ridder announces retirement after 2026-27 season

Embry-Riddle men's basketball head coach Steve Ridder announced Friday that he will retire following the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. The decision marks the end of a 37-year tenure for Ridder, who transformed the program after inheriting it following a winless inaugural year in 1988-89. Over his career, he has accumulated 811 victories, placing him 29th on the all-time list for men's college basketball coaches. His accolades include 20 conference championships, 19 national tournament appearances and the 2000 NAIA Division II national title. Beyond coaching, Ridder served as the school's athletic director for two decades from 1993 to 2013. The veteran coach holds a career winning percentage of.695 and has mentored 38 All-Americans during his time leading the program. His sons, Ryan and Reed, have also pursued careers as basketball coaches.
