Emma Wilkins grand slam leads Lake Central to Class 4A state title

Emma Wilkins hit a grand slam in the third inning as Lake Central prevailed over Terre Haute North 9-2 in the Class 4A state championship on June 12 at Purdue’s Bittinger Stadium. MaKayla Van Vossen opened the scoring with a homer in the first inning, and Tegan Tripp added another in the fourth. Junior pitcher Maddie Such allowed only one earned run, striking out seven and contributing an RBI single. With this victory, Lake Central secured its first state title since 2004 and fourth overall. Head coach Yvette Tovar, a former player at the school, celebrated her second title as coach.
