England rally to overcome Australia in WXV Global Series opener

England began the inaugural WXV Global Series with a 48-15 victory over Australia at CorpAcq Stadium. The world champions trailed 10-5 at halftime after a difficult opening 40 minutes that saw Australia score through Faliki Pohiva and a penalty from Samantha Wood. England responded with seven second-half tries to extend their winning streak to 39 matches. May Campbell, Meg Jones, Bryony Field, Mia Venner, Sadia Kabeya, Lucy Packer, and Claudia Moloney-MacDonald all crossed the line for England after the interval. The match marked the first time England trailed at halftime since 2020. England will continue their home leg of the series against Canada at Sandy Park next weekend before facing New Zealand on September 26.
