Enric Mas wins Vuelta a Espana as Matthew Brennan finishes fourth

Enric Mas secured the overall red jersey at the Vuelta a Espana on the final day of the three-week race. The concluding stage in Granada concluded with Tobias Halland Johannessen crossing the finish line first, ahead of Alessandro Romele. Matthew Brennan finished the stage in fourth place, missing out on a record sixth stage win for a debutante in a Grand Tour. The event saw early disruption after pre-race favorite Tadej Pogacar withdrew during stage eight following a crash. Following this victory, attention shifts toward the upcoming Grand Depart in the UK next year, which will feature both the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes. Discussion regarding athlete safety remains prominent after recent incidents during the racing season.
