Enzo Maresca defines Manchester City leadership roles for the 2026-27 season

Summary

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the club's formal captaincy group for the 2026-27 campaign yesterday. The leadership unit consists of Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Marc Guehi. Although Phil Foden was not named to this specific group, Maresca clarified that he still views the midfielder as a captain due to his long-standing tenure at the club. Foden recently contributed to a 4-1 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park by recording two assists. The manager expects the academy graduate to continue setting high standards for the squad through his performance and experience. Foden is now working to build on that recent form to provide leadership on the pitch.
