Esmee Gummer is currently undertaking a 5,000km run across the UK and Ireland as part of an initiative called The Nation's 5k. Since setting off from Inverness in June, she has traversed more than 50 cities while leading free 5km run clubs for local participants. The project aims to encourage public fitness, a mission personal to Gummer who learned to walk again years after surgery complications left her paralysed from the waist down at age 18. Supported by a crew in a campervan, she covers up to 70km per day and plans to complete the journey in London on October 3. The challenge serves as a fundraiser for charities Wings for Life and Sport in Mind.
