Esmerlyn Valdez placed on IL; Ronny Simon recalled by Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed rookie outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring injury sustained while running to first base. Valdez, who has hit.232 with 17 home runs this season, is likely done for the year with just 14 games remaining. In his place, the team has recalled outfielder Ronny Simon from Triple-A Indianapolis. Simon has been performing well in the minors, hitting.334 with 72 RBIs this season. The Pirates recently finished a successful road trip and are looking ahead to a home series against the Milwaukee Brewers starting tomorrow.
