ESPN identifies national poll voters as Penn State's biggest rival

ESPN has named national poll voters as Penn State's biggest all-time rival. Despite having five undefeated seasons under Joe Paterno, the Nittany Lions did not capture a national championship in those seasons. The program was the first Power 4 conference champion excluded from the College Football Playoff. Although they made the playoffs in 2024, their exclusion returned last season. With a new coach, Matt Campbell, and an easier schedule heading into the 2026 season, resentment towards the voters could increase among fans if the team performs well but does not receive adequate recognition.
