Extreme heat prompts emergency calls during Alabama football season opener

Extreme temperatures at Bryant-Denny Stadium resulted in 21 heat-related emergency medical calls during Alabama's season opener against East Carolina on Saturday. According to meteorological data, the game-day temperature reached 99 degrees with a heat index of 106 degrees. While most individuals received on-site treatment at cooling stations or first-aid areas, one person required transportation from the facility. The university implemented several measures to combat the conditions, including providing misting fans, water tanks, and additional medical staff throughout the venue. Similar heat issues occurred at other college football venues on the same day, with Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium reporting approximately 200 medical calls and officials at the University of Texas noting a field temperature reaching 160 degrees.
