FA bans Irlam FC player Alex Francis for 10 matches

An independent National Serious Case Panel has issued a 10-match ban to Irlam FC player Alex Francis following a finding of discriminatory conduct. The incident occurred during an FA Cup match between Hallam FC and Irlam FC in Sheffield on 9 August. An FA spokesperson confirmed the disciplinary action stemmed from comments made toward an opposition player that included a reference to nationality. The match referee heard the remarks and submitted a report to authorities. Hallam FC secretary Ashley Carson supported the ruling and the disciplinary process. Francis has until 4 September to appeal the decision, with his suspension scheduled to begin on Monday. This ruling follows a record 1,744 reports of discrimination logged by the charity Kick It Out during the 2025-26 season.
