Federal ruling may allow Arizona athletes to return for extra eligibility

A federal judge in Colorado has ruled that athletes who graduated high school in 2022 may receive an extra year of NCAA eligibility. The preliminary injunction applies to all sports and allows players to enter the transfer portal despite it being closed. This opens the possibility for recently departed Arizona athletes, such as Ismail Mahdi and Ana Heath, to return for an additional season. Arizona's basketball coach Tommy Lloyd expressed interest in adding another player to his roster in light of the ruling, specifically targeting RJ Godfrey from Clemson. Arizona baseball might also seek additional players to fill open roster spots after offseason transfers.
