The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) proposed a new Open Division playoff format, which will begin in the 2026-27 school year. Teams will qualify based on MaxPreps rankings, with the top eight from football and other sports advancing after district tournaments. The playoff will consist of two four-team brackets playing round robin, followed by a four-team single-elimination tournament. Each team will have at least one home game and the top teams from each bracket will compete in the semifinals. The FHSAA will finalize this proposal during its Board of Directors meeting on June 7-8.
