FIFA implements yellow card suspension changes for 2026 World Cup

FIFA has revised the rules governing yellow card suspensions for the expanded 2026 World Cup, which features 48 teams. Under the new regulations, a player's yellow card will be wiped clean after the group stage and again after the quarter-finals. This change aims to prevent key players from missing crucial matches due to accumulated yellow cards. Previously, two yellow cards prior to the quarter-finals resulted in a one-match suspension, which led to tactical adjustments by coaches. Only single yellow cards will be eligible for cancellation at the designated points.
