FIFA names 52 referees, 88 assistants for 2026 World Cup

FIFA has announced the list of match officials for the 2026 World Cup, including 52 referees, 88 assistant referees, and 30 video assistant referees. These officials were selected after extensive evaluations, seminars, and officiating experience in FIFA tournaments. Pierluigi Collina, FIFA’s Chief Refereeing Officer, emphasized the rigorous monitoring of their performances over the past three years to ensure only the best are chosen. The referees will receive ongoing support from fitness and medical staff ahead of their assignments, set to begin on May 31.
