Filly Marvelous Madison euthanized following injury at Saratoga Race Course

Marvelous Madison, a 4-year-old filly trained by Jorge Abreu, was euthanized after suffering a displaced fracture in her left hind leg. The injury was discovered after the horse finished fifth in the Yaddo Stakes on August 30 at Saratoga Race Course. Officials at the New York state Gaming Commission reported that the horse became lame in her stall after returning from the Mellon turf course. This incident follows several other horse fatalities at the Saratoga meet this summer, including three training-related deaths. Since the summer meet began on July 3, the state database has recorded three other equine deaths. The current Saratoga racing season concludes on Monday.
