Fire breaks out at M.L. Tigue Moore Field, home of Louisiana baseball

A fire occurred on August 21 at M.L. Tigue Moore Field, home of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team. The Lafayette Fire Department responded around 4 p.m. after sparks from construction equipment ignited pine needles near the field's left-field fence. The flames spread to the fence and an old scoreboard, causing damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and first responders limited further harm. The university was planning construction on a new clubhouse and moving the outfield in future seasons. The Cajuns, who ended the 2026 NCAA College Baseball Tournament as runner-ups in the Starkville Regionals, hope to proceed with offseason plans despite the incident.
