Flamengo moves to first place after Botafogo and Palmeiras draw

Flamengo claimed the top spot in the 2026 Brasileirão standings on Sunday night following a scoreless draw between Palmeiras and Botafogo at Nilton Santos. The result left Palmeiras with 53 points, trailing Flamengo's 54 points after 19 rounds of competition. While Palmeiras controlled much of the second half, neither side was able to break the deadlock despite several scoring opportunities. Palmeiras finished the match with ten men after Barboza received a red card in the final minute. The draw leaves Botafogo in 13th place with 31 points as they prepare for a home match against Red Bull Bragantino next Saturday. Palmeiras will focus on the first leg of their Copa Libertadores quarter-final match against LDU this Wednesday before returning to league action against Choque-Rie.
