Florida Gators defeat Florida Atlantic in season opening football game

The University of Florida football team opened its season with a 66-21 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Sept. 5. The game took place in Gainesville at the venue known as The Swamp. Quarterback Aaron Philo, named as the starter for the team, recorded four touchdowns during the contest. Three of those scores occurred by halftime, allowing the Gators to establish a 38-14 lead at the break. This performance marked the highest point total for the program in a season opener since 1994.
