Florida State defeats New Mexico State in season opener

Florida State defeated New Mexico State 34-17 on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium to open the 2026 season. Despite the victory, the Seminoles showed inconsistencies with seven penalties and struggles in pass protection. Quarterback Ashton Daniels completed 17 of 27 passes for 202 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The rushing attack provided balance, led by Ousmane Kromah, who recorded 115 yards on 14 carries, and Samuel Singleton Jr., who accounted for 164 all-purpose yards.
