Former baseball coach Buddy Powers dies at 63 after cancer battle

Buddy Powers, a former baseball coach for Riverdale and Central Magnet, died on August 4 at 63, as confirmed by his daughter. He coached Riverdale for 16 seasons, leading the team to the TSSAA state tournament multiple times from 2001 to 2006. Powers later coached Central Magnet, achieving back-to-back state tourney appearances in 2013 and 2014. Throughout his career, he won nearly 400 games and also served as a Major League Baseball scout. His contributions to youth baseball were significant during his tenure as a coach.
