Former Carolina Hurricanes trainer brings the Stanley Cup to UNC campus

Former Carolina Hurricanes head athletic trainer Doug Bennett took the Stanley Cup to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on September 5, 2026. The visit included stops at the Old Well, the Stallings-Evans Sports Medicine Center, Boshamer Stadium, and the Dean E. Smith Center. Bennett, who earned a master’s degree in sports science at the university, toured the campus with family and staff members to celebrate the franchise's recent championship victory. This appearance took place shortly after the announcement that Bennett is stepping down from his role with the Hurricanes after sixteen seasons. The Stanley Cup is scheduled to remain in the area until the NHL season begins, when it will be featured at the Lenovo Center for the team's banner celebration.
