Antônio Carlos Nunes de Lima, known as Colonel Nunes, died early Sunday in Belém at the age of 87. A reserve officer in the Military Police and former mayor of Monte Alegre, Nunes held a significant tenure as a football executive. He served as chairman of the Pará Football Federation for nearly 20 years and was elected as a CBF vice president in December 2015. Throughout his career, he functioned as the acting president of the Brazilian football governing body during multiple periods, including 2016, 2021, and between 2017 and 2019. CBF president Samir Xaud stated the organization mourns his passing and noted his contributions to the development of football in Pará and across Brazil. A wake is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Max Domini memorial, followed by a burial ceremony at the Recanto da Saudade cemetery on Monday.
