Former Louisville quarterback Marty Lowe dies at age 54

Marty Lowe, the first Louisville quarterback to play in the Governor's Cup, died Tuesday at age 54 following a battle with Stage 4 kidney cancer. Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm confirmed the news, noting he had visited the former player recently. Lowe played for Louisville from 1991 to 1995 and served as a starter during the inaugural 1994 Governor's Cup against Kentucky. During his senior season in 1995, he led the team to a 13-10 victory over the Wildcats. Beyond his college career, Lowe played two seasons in the Arena Football League and held several coaching positions at UTEP, Western Carolina, and within the AFL. He also worked as a radio broadcaster for Louisville football programs.
